Letter from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg re Trailblazer Dinner – August 17, 2001

CHAMBERS OF JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG
Supreme Court of the United States Washington, D.C. 20543
August 17, 2001

Claire M. DeMatteis
1105 N. Market Street, Suite 2000
Wilmington, DE 19801

Dear Ms. DeMatteis:

Appreciation for your letter inviting me to speak at the 20th Annual Delaware Trailblazer Dinner. Much as I would like to say yes, the date, October 8, is not possible for me. Months ago, facing an overcrowded extracurricular calendar, I decided to add no more out-of-Court engagements to my schedule for 2001 and 2002. In this regard, I am following Brandeis’ sage counsel, to resist even the irresistible when adequate time for the Court’s demanding work is at stake.

With every good wish,
Ruth Bader Ginsburg

It would have been a pleasure, but the invitation came far too
Ruth
