Letter from Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to Justice Randy J. Holland: November 8, 2010

CHAMBERS OF JUSTICE SANDRA DAY O’CONNOR (RET.)
Supreme Court of the United States
Washington, D. C. 20543

November 8, 2010

The Honorable Randy J. Holland
Delaware Supreme Court
Carvel State Office Building
820 North French Street, 11th Floor Wilmington, DE 19801

Dear Randy:
I write to thank you for your continued leadership on behalf of the iCivics education project in Delaware, and to invite you to join me at our first annual meeting of iCivics’ state coordination teams.

State teams are the key to getting iCivics in the classrooms. Thanks to you and other volunteers around the country, we have had a very successful school year so far. More than one million iCivics games have been played to date, our website traffic continues to grow each week, and feedback from teachers and students has been overwhelmingly positive. We must continue to build on our positive momentum to reach students across the country with this valuable free resource.

I hope you will consider joining me, along with the iCivics staff and other state teams, to celebrate our successes and strategize about how we can fulfill our potential: to engage an entire generation of young people in civic learning and participation. The meeting will include presentations by states that have led the way in getting iCivics adopted in the classroom, and focus on strategies that may help with your efforts in Delaware. We will also discuss the strategic vision of iCivics for the coming year, and the crucial role that state teams have in achieving our goals.

Thank you again for generously giving your time and talent to this worthwhile effort. I hope to see you in Pebble Beach next February.

Sincerely,
Sandra

Sandra Day O’Connor
