Office Box 369 Georgetown, Delaware 19947Dear Randy:
I would look forward to attending all the events in connection with your receipt of the Powell Award at the Court, but for the fact that I have an uncancellable out-of-town commitment made almost a year ago. I have advised the Inns of Court office accordingly.
I am sorry to miss the celebration, and hope you will forgive me. And, of course, congratulations on the well deserved honor. I am proud to call you a friend. Best regards.
Sincerely,

Thanks for your note of the 15th. I had an enjoyable time at the University of Pennsylvania, and it was a pleasure speaking with you at the dinner. Your opinion in Claudio v. Delaware is precisely how I think constitutional questions should be approached. I wish that I usually had as much material available as you were able to unearth.
Best regards.

Justice Anthony Kennedy letter to Randy J. Holland re Inns of Court: November 4, 2013

CHAMBERS OF JUSTICE ANTHONY M. KENNEDY
Supreme Court of the United States
Washington, D. C. 20543November 4, 2013
The Honorable Randy J. Holland
Justice
Supreme Court of Delaware
Post Office Box 369
Georgetown, Delaware 19947Dear Randy,
Please accept my congratulations for the honor conferred on all the judiciary by the establishment of Randy J. Holland American Inn of Court.
My recollections of talking with Warren Burger and Sherman Christensen about starting the American Inns of Court are still vivid, because they were so excited. My own first reaction was that the idea was an excellent one – but this understates it. It is now clear that it was a great, remarkable idea. In our own times the Inns of Court are a most singular contribution to the idea and the reality of professionalism and excellence in the law. And your career exemplifies these same precepts.
The two of us might look forward to the time when the Randy J. Holland American Inn of Court and the Anthony M. Kennedy Inn compete for the first place in the contest for best program of the year. Perhaps we will settle for a tie.
With repeated congratulations, with assurances of my continued admiration, and with thanks for your friendship, I remain,
Yours sincerely,
TonyCategories: Anthony Kennedy
